You don’t need specialized tools to get started. Here are some basics, plus everyday items you can substitute:
Pottery Rib: Used to smooth surfaces. Alternative: An old credit card.
Needle Tool: For scoring or detail work. Alternative: A toothpick or sewing needle.
Wire Cutter: For slicing clay. Alternative: just a piece of metal wire.
Loop Tool: For trimming or carving. Alternative: A bent paperclip.
Rolling Pin: For slab work. Alternative: A glass bottle or plastic plumbing tube.
Wheel: Spins your work. Alternative: A lazy susan.
Pottery knife: to cut your slabs and clay Alternative: any cutter or sharp small kitchen knife will do!
Pottery sponge: to smoothen the surfaces Alternative: a cheap kitchen sponge
Scoring tool: to scratch the clay before attaching something Alternative: cut vvvvv shapes out of an old credit card
